- Originalfassung (mit Strophe und Refrain) Bekannt ist Hupfelds Song bis heute vor allem als ikonische Melodie aus dem Hollywood-Melodram ,Casablanca von 1942. Doch
- Hupfeld hatte es schon viel früher geschrieben. Es gehörte zu einem Bündel an ,Reserve-Songs, die für Broadway-Musicals zur Verfügung standen, 1931 wurde es schließlich in der Show ,Everybodys Welcome eingesetzt.
- Die Produzenten von ,Casablanca übernahmen den Song in den Film. Max Steiner, der Komponist der Filmmusik zu Casablanca, lehnte es dann aber ab, ihn im Film zu belassen. Doch die entscheidenden Bilder waren bereits gedreht. Weil Ingrid Bergman schon andere Verpflichtungen hatte, konnten die Szenen mit ,As Time Goes By nicht nachgedreht werden. Das Lied blieb im Film und wurde so zum Welterfolg.

Talking in Bed was composed in London in the summer of 2008, but was revised and arranged for soprano and piano quintet in the summer of 2010 in Reykjavík.
