Das Stück entstand vermutlich 1878, viele Jahre später erfuhr es umfangreiche Bearbeitungen durch den Komponisten. Nach dem Charakter des Klavierparts zu urteilen, beabsichtigte Dvorák eine Orchesterversion. In Druck ging das Werk erst 1929 in einer Bearbeitung von Günther Raphael. Der Titel verfügt über ein ausführliches Vorwort und einen Editionsbericht und ist Teil der ersten Gesamtausgabe der Werke A. Dvoráks.
